What is Metro?

Who we are and what we do.

Metro is an organisation paid for through the five Councils in West Yorkshire. It works for all 2.1 million people of West Yorkshire, to make sure that there is a great public transport network.

It does this by:

  • paying for bus services that wouldn’t run otherwise such as in evenings and at weekends;
  • paying for local MetroTrain services;
  • running bus stations;
  • operating AccessBus services for disabled passengers:
  • managing prepaid tickets such as MetroCard and half-fare travel
  • providing accurate, up-to-date information on all public transport services within West Yorkshire;
  • developing schemes to make transport better such as bus lanes and the YourNextBus information system.

The buses and trains themselves are run by private companies and Metro works closely with these companies to make sure the services are what you want. Make sure you use the Have Your Say section to tell us about what works well and what could be better.

Metro employs around 400 people at its offices in Wellington House, Crow Nest Lane and Phoenix House in Leeds and at Travel Centres and Bus Stations across West Yorkshire.
