Nadal triumphs in Wimbledon epic
Rafael Nadal finally put his grass court career on track with an epic five set win over Roger Federer in the Men's singles final at Wimbledon. Nadal burst into a two set lead at the start of the match before rain stopped play for an hour. After the break Federer came out the stronger and claimed two sets of his own, both on the tie break. But Nadal showed great character to bounce back and win a thrilling fifth set 9-7 to lift the trophy for the first time.
Venus wins battle of the sisters
Venus Williams claimed victory in the battle of the sisters at Wimbledon and at the same time ended her curse of losing to Serena in major finals. Since winning the final of the US open against her sister in 2001 Venus had lost to Serena in all five of the meetings beetween the two in grand slam finals. However Venus eased through to win her fifth Womens title at Wimbledon. Later on the same night the pair played together to win the womens doubles to cap off a great day for the Williams sisters.
Hatton fight set to move to Las Vegas for fans
Ricky Hatton has revealed that he is likely to stage his next fight in Las Vegas despite dreaming of topping the bill at New York's Madison Square Garden before he retires from boxing. He says that 'Although it's my dream to top the bill at Madison Square Garden I want what's best financially for my fans because it's around Christmas time and they'll want to save all the money they can.' Paulie Malignaggi will be Hattons next opponent and he has been pencilled in for the 23rd of november in America. However the fighter did make the point that nothing was certain yet.
Hamilton storms to British GP win
Lewis Hamilton stormed to what he described as his 'best victory' in the British GP at silverstone. Hamilton is now tied at the top of the championships along with Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. It was a vital win after scoring no points for two races in a row.
