A truly enlightening show for all the family, Monkey is a very modern hero – anarchic, impulsive, but above all else true to his friends. Fast paced storytelling and high wire antics combine in this hugely physical and visual show based on the Chinese legend Journey to the West, better known in the UK through its 70’s TV incarnation.
Irrepressible Monkey was born at the dawn of time, quickly causing chaos and breaking all the rules. Locked up in a mountain for a thousand years his only chance of escape is to help a travelling Monk on a sacred quest.
And what a quest! As Monkey and Tripitaka follow the path to the Buddha, they must fight off many tricksy Demons, false Kings and even Yama, King of Death, himself. But with a flying cloud to command and the help of his new friends Pigsy and the fish dragon Sandy, the Western Heavens may just be within reach.
