Become a My bus Escort

Volunteer to be a Primary My bus Escort

Metro believes that busy services with around 30 or more children on them benefit from having an additional adult.

Parents of children on My bus primary school services can volunteer to help out on board their child’s My bus.

What does a bus escort do?

The role of the escort:

  • to encourage young children in safe bus use
  • to help with seatbelts
  • to keep a check on any minor misbehaviour
  • in the unlikely event of evacuation, to be an extra support to the driver of the vehicle. The driver would, of course, still have overall responsibility for the safety and comfort of children on board.

Training for escorts will be provided and Metro would ask volunteers to undertake a Police CRB check.

Escorts would be dropped back off at home after the morning run and picked up on the way in the afternoon.

For parents able to volunteer throughout the week, Metro is happy to offer either free travel for children through the year or a MetroCard for the parent.
