Who is entitled to a StudentPlus MetroCard?

Metro's StudentPlus MetroCard gives anyone up to the age of 21 (and mature students 22 and over who are in full-time education) savings on bus and train travel throughout West Yorkshire.

Can it be used all over West Yorkshire?

Yes! The Student Plus MetroCard allows unlimited journeys on the county's extensive public transport network, which covers the Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield areas.
It is valid on almost all services run by operators, except for Nightrider and special bus services, such as football specials.

StudentPlus MetroCards, which have to be used in conjunction with a free StudentPlus PhotoCard, are on sale at Metro Travel Centres, staffed bus and rail stations, Post Offices.

How to get a StudentPlus MetroCard?

The first time that you want to purchase a Student Plus MetroCard you will need to provide:

  • A passport type photograph of yourself
  • Anyone up to the age of 21 inclusive is required to provide proof of age
  • Mature students aged 22 or over are required to provide evidence that they are full-time students for each academic year. See below for more details.

Over 22?

For over 22 year olds the proof that you are in full-time education (16 hours per week or more) needs to be an official document, such as:

  • college registration document
  • identity card
  • grant form
  • student union card
  • college/university letter confirming placement taken up
